The short answer: To learn freelancing in Dhaka in 2026, pick one in-demand skill (such as website design, digital marketing, SEO or graphic design), learn it by building real projects instead of only watching videos, add AI tools so you work faster and deliver more, build a small portfolio, and learn from a mentor who actually freelances and can show verifiable work. Expect months, not days. I am Tanmoy Biswas, a Dhaka-based Founder & Digital Growth Consultant. I started as a freelance web designer on Fiverr and Upwork, and today I mentor the Digital Marketing and Website Design courses at my learning institute, Freelancing Career.

If you search for "best freelancer in Dhaka" or "from whom can I learn freelancing", you will find plenty of people calling themselves the best. I will not do that. Nobody awards that title, and a claim you cannot check is not worth much.

What I can do is explain how freelancing works now that AI has changed it, show you a practical way to learn, and give you a checklist for judging any teacher, including me. Then, near the end, I will tell you plainly how I help people grow their skills, so you can decide for yourself.

Is Freelancing Still Worth Learning in the AI Era?

Yes, but the kind of freelancer who does well is changing.

Freelancing in Bangladesh is large. In February 2024, The Daily Star reported expert estimates of about one million freelancers in Bangladesh, including around 650,000 in IT. Earnings estimates vary widely between sources, so treat them as rough. An older Oxford Internet Institute study, using data from July 2017, put Bangladesh second in the world, with 16% of online workers behind India's 24%. That data is dated, but the direction is clear: a lot of people here compete for the same work.

AI rewards skill more than it rewards speed. Upwork's Future Workforce Index 2026, released in July 2026, found that freelancers doing AI work earn 34% more per hour than those who do not. It also found a split. Simple, quick AI work (such as basic generative content) is growing fast, but the pay per contract is falling. Freelancers doing more complex work with AI saw their earnings rise. Upwork describes the winner as an "AI orchestrator": someone who connects AI tools to real expertise, applies human judgment and turns the output into a business result.

This data comes from Upwork, which sells freelance services, and from a US survey, so read it as a direction, not a promise. But it matches what I see: clients no longer pay well for tasks that a tool can do in a minute. They pay well for people who know what good looks like and can deliver it.

That is why the best plan is not "learn AI instead of a skill." It is "learn a real skill, then use AI to do it better."

Which Freelancing Skills Are Worth Learning in 2026?

Here is my view, based on the work I have seen clients ask for. It is not a ranking from a survey, so use it as a guide.

Skill What clients buy How AI changes it Good to know
Website design and development Business websites, online stores, landing pages, maintenance AI speeds up layouts, code and content, but clients still need someone who can plan, build and fix One of the clearest paths: visible portfolio, steady demand
Digital marketing Campaigns, content, analytics, lead generation AI helps with research, ideas and reporting, but strategy and judgment decide results Pays best when tied to enquiries and sales
SEO Getting businesses found on Google and AI search AI helps with research and drafts, but quality, structure and trust still matter Takes patience, and clients value honest reporting
Social media marketing Plans, content and community management AI drafts and varies content, but brand voice and consistency stand out Needs steady work and clear reporting
Graphic design and branding Logos, brand kits, social creatives AI makes options faster, but taste and brand thinking decide Crowded at the low end, so aim for brand quality
Video editing and creation Short videos, ads, tutorials AI speeds up edits and captions In demand because every business needs video
Writing, translation and content Articles, product copy, translation AI drafts quickly, so the value moves to editing, accuracy and expertise Most exposed to simple AI output, so specialise
AI integration and automation Chatbots, workflow automation, AI-assisted systems This is the AI work itself Needs a strong base skill first
Data entry and simple admin tasks Repetitive, task-based work Most exposed to automation Low pay and shrinking, so use it as a stepping stone at most

How to choose: pick the skill that fits three things: you enjoy it, there is demand, and you can show proof of it within a few weeks. Be careful of choosing only by hype.

How to Use AI as a Freelancer, Honestly

AI is a tool, like a good camera or a code editor. Here is how to use it well.

Where AI helps

  • Research and first drafts of outlines, plans and proposals
  • Generating options for layouts, headlines, colour ideas and content
  • Code suggestions, debugging and documentation
  • Summaries, translations and reports
  • Repetitive tasks that you can turn into a workflow

Where AI hurts you

  • Unedited output. Generic work is easy to spot, and clients can generate generic work themselves.
  • Wrong answers. AI can sound sure and be wrong, so check facts, numbers and code.
  • Confidentiality. Do not paste a client's private data into public tools without permission.
  • Copyright and likeness. Do not use AI to copy someone's work, voice or face.

What the platforms say

Both big marketplaces allow AI, with conditions.

  • Fiverr allows AI across its categories. It expects you to refine and tailor the output to the client, to describe your workflow when a client asks, and to honour a request for non-AI work. Misrepresenting AI use can lead to a cancelled order, a refund and account suspension.
  • Upwork advises freelancers to tell clients upfront when they use generative AI, and its User Agreement prohibits using it where a client has restricted it.

The simple rule is this: be open with the client, refine everything, and never pretend.

A three-step AI skill ladder

  1. Use tools. Learn to get good results from AI assistants for research, drafting and ideas.
  2. Build workflows. Turn what works into repeatable steps, templates and checklists you can reuse for every client.
  3. Integrate and automate. Connect tools, set up chatbots and automations for clients. This is where the premium that Upwork describes tends to sit. I explain business uses in AI for Business: Where to Start, What to Avoid and What It Really Takes.

How Should You Learn Freelancing? A 90-Day Plan

This plan works for most beginners. Adjust the pace to your time, and do not expect a perfect timeline. Real progress depends on how much you practise.

Days 1 to 7: choose and commit. Pick one skill and one beginner-friendly niche (for example, WordPress websites for local clinics, or social media for small shops). Decide how many hours a week you can protect, and set up a quiet place with reliable internet and power backup.

Weeks 2 to 5: learn the fundamentals by building. Learn the basics through small projects, not only videos. Each week, finish something: a one-page website, a poster set, a content calendar, an SEO audit of a local business site. Good free places to start include freeCodeCamp and MDN Web Docs for web skills, Google Skillshop for ads and analytics, HubSpot Academy for marketing and SEO basics, and Meta Blueprint for social media advertising.

Weeks 4 to 8: build a portfolio of three to five projects. Make them look like real client work: a clear problem, what you did and the result. Include at least one project where you used an AI workflow and explain how it saved time or improved the outcome. If you have no clients, help a local business or a friend's shop for free or at a small price in exchange for permission to show the work.

Weeks 6 to 9: practise English and communication. You do not need perfect English. You need clear, polite messages. Practise writing proposals, asking questions and giving updates.

Weeks 8 to 12: set up your profile and start applying. Create an honest profile on one marketplace, with your real name, a clear photo and a focused headline. Send short, personal proposals to small, well-matched jobs. Do not copy and paste the same message everywhere.

After 90 days: improve and specialise. Collect reviews, raise your price a little with each good result, narrow your niche and build your own portfolio website. Repeat clients are where freelancing becomes a career.

From Whom Can You Learn Freelancing? Your Options Compared

There is no single right answer. Each option suits a different person.

Option Good for Watch out for
Free videos and tutorials Testing whether you like a skill Easy to start and hard to finish, with no feedback
Self-paced online courses Learning at your own speed, often in Bangla You must stay disciplined, and quality varies
Institutes and academies Structure, a schedule and classmates Check the teachers' real experience and the syllabus
Government and training programmes Low-cost or free training Intake and quality vary, so check what is open now
A mentor who freelances Feedback on your real work, and guidance on clients Make sure they have verifiable work, not just a good pitch
Working with a freelancer or agency Learning how real projects run Positions are limited, and you must already have some skill

Many successful freelancers combine these: free resources for the basics, a mentor for feedback and real projects for practice.

How to Judge Any Teacher, Including Me

Before you pay anyone, check these:

  • Do they have a verifiable freelancing profile or real client work you can look at yourself?
  • Do they show real results honestly, not guaranteed income?
  • Do they teach current tools, including AI, and not only old methods?
  • Is the learning practical, with projects and feedback, not only lectures?
  • Can you see the syllabus, the teachers and student reviews from independent places?
  • Do they explain fees and refunds clearly?
  • Do they teach honest practice, with no fake identities and no buying or renting accounts?

Red flags: promises of fast money, "guaranteed" jobs, pressure to pay today, no named teachers, and no examples of real work.

What Does "Top Rated Freelancer" Really Mean?

"Top Rated" is a real badge, and it has rules. It is not the same as "best".

  • Upwork Top Rated: Upwork's help pages on talent badges say Top Rated is for the top 10% of talent. It requires a Job Success Score of at least 90%, a complete profile, a good record, recent activity and earnings history. Top Rated Plus is higher still, for the top 3%, with proven success on large contracts.
  • Fiverr Top Rated: Fiverr's Top Rated page lists high standards, including a strong success score, a rating of at least 4.7, quick replies and a meaningful number of completed orders from many different clients, followed by a manual review. The numbers change, so check your own dashboard.

A badge shows consistent results on one platform. It does not tell you who teaches well, who suits your project or who is right for your budget.

How to Check a Freelancer or Mentor in Dhaka

Signal What it tells you Where to check
Real client reviews Reliability and communication Marketplace profiles and independent review sites
Live work Actual quality The websites, designs or campaigns they link to
Repeat clients Trust over time Their reviews and case studies
Clear process How they will handle your project A short call, a written plan or a proposal
Honest limits Whether they overpromise Whether they say what they cannot do

I do not claim a badge in this article, and I will not call myself the best. You can judge my work from the live sites I have built and the client reviews on my home page.

How Tanmoy Biswas Helps You Grow Freelancing Skills

Here is who I am and how I teach, so you can decide whether it fits you.

My background

I started my career as a freelance web designer and worked with clients on Fiverr and Upwork. Then I began teaching, and many students followed. I created a team, and my learning institute is Freelancing Career.

After creating the team, I started my service agency, Sky Dream IT, which takes projects from the local market as well as from freelance marketplaces. Later I added Sky Soft Studio, an online agency for international clients covering digital marketing, SEO, social media, web and mobile apps, graphic design and video. I handle the clients for both. Today I am a Founder & Digital Growth Consultant based in Dhaka, with clients in Bangladesh, Singapore, Canada, the United States, Australia and Germany, and more than 600 live client sites built across my companies and personal projects.

What I teach

At Freelancing Career, the Digital Marketing and Website Design and Development courses are among the most popular, and I am the mentor for both. The institute also runs practical courses in WordPress, graphic design, SEO and web development with AI. According to Freelancing Career, there are more than ten online courses, more than ten tutors and more than 500 students.

How it helps you

  • You learn from someone who still works with clients. I handle the clients of Sky Dream IT and Sky Soft Studio, and the courses are built on real client work, not only on slides.
  • AI is part of the work, not an extra. The courses are practical and current with the AI shift, so you learn to use these tools for research, content, design and delivery without losing quality.
  • Practical projects over theory. You build things you can show.
  • The client side, not just the craft. Proposals, communication, scoping, delivery and honesty are part of how a freelancer earns trust.
  • Online, so you can learn from anywhere. You do not need to live in Dhaka.

What I do not promise

I do not promise income, jobs or a number of clients. Results depend on your effort, your skill and the market. I also teach honest practice: use your own identity, never buy or rent accounts, and be open with clients about how you work.

How to start

  1. Look at the courses at Freelancing Career and choose Digital Marketing or Website Design (or another path that fits you).
  2. Check the syllabus, the teachers and the fees, and ask any question you want answered before you decide.
  3. If you are not sure which skill to choose, send me a short message and I will help you think it through.

Looking to Hire the Best Freelancer in Dhaka Instead?

If you are a business owner, not a learner, you will have the opposite problem: who can you trust? Use the signals in the table above, ask for live examples, agree on milestones in writing and talk to someone before you pay. If you want a team led by someone you deal with directly, my agencies Sky Dream IT and Sky Soft Studio build websites, run digital marketing and SEO, and deliver apps and software for businesses. Write a short brief and I will tell you honestly what I would do.

Common Mistakes When Learning Freelancing

  • Learning ten skills at once. Pick one and build proof.
  • Only watching, never building. Clients hire results, not certificates.
  • Using AI to avoid learning. If you cannot judge the output, you cannot sell it.
  • Copying one proposal to everyone. Clients notice immediately.
  • Charging too little for too long. Low prices attract difficult clients, and it is hard to climb out.
  • Buying or renting an account. You risk losing everything, and it is dishonest.
  • Believing "get rich quick" promises. Real freelancing is steady work.
  • Ignoring English and communication. It matters as much as skill.
  • Working outside the platform too early. You lose payment protection.
  • Not tracking what works. Review your proposals, replies and results every week.

A Quick Checklist to Start

  • I chose one skill and one beginner-friendly niche
  • I set a weekly study schedule and a quiet workspace with backup power
  • I am building three to five portfolio projects
  • At least one project shows how I use AI honestly
  • I checked my teacher or mentor against the checklist above
  • My profile uses my real name and a clear photo
  • I know the AI rules of the marketplace I will use
  • I can send short, personal proposals
  • I track results and improve every week

Frequently Asked Questions

Is freelancing still worth it in the AI era?

Yes, if you build a real skill and use AI to deliver better work. Upwork's 2026 research found that freelancers doing AI work earn more per hour, but simple tasks that a tool can do quickly are getting cheaper. Aim to be the person who understands the business problem and uses AI to solve it, not the person who only pushes a button.

Which freelancing skill should a beginner in Dhaka learn first?

It depends on you, but website design and development, digital marketing, SEO and graphic design are practical starting points because you can build visible proof quickly. Try a small project in two skills, notice which one you enjoy and can finish, then focus on that one.

How long does it take to learn freelancing and get the first client?

It varies. Many beginners need a few months to learn a skill well enough, build a small portfolio and win a first small job. Some are faster and some are slower. Be wary of anyone who promises a fixed date or a fixed income.

Can I learn freelancing from zero, without a degree?

Yes. Clients care about what you can do and how you work. A portfolio, honest reviews and good communication matter more than a certificate.

Do I need AI skills to freelance?

You do not need them on day one, but they are quickly becoming part of normal work. Learn your core skill first, then add AI tools to work faster and take on more complex projects.

From whom can I learn freelancing in Dhaka or Bangladesh?

You can learn from free resources, self-paced courses, institutes, training programmes, mentors and by working alongside a freelancer or agency. Choose people who show verifiable work, teach current tools including AI and are honest about results. I mentor the Digital Marketing and Website Design courses at Freelancing Career, and you can compare it with other options using the checklist above.

Who is the best freelancer in Dhaka?

There is no official ranking. Different freelancers are best for different skills, budgets and projects. Judge by live work, real reviews, repeat clients, clear communication and honest limits, not by who calls themselves the best.

What is a top-rated freelancer?

It is a badge on a platform. On Upwork, Top Rated is for the top 10% of talent with a Job Success Score of at least 90% and a strong record, and Top Rated Plus is for the top 3%. On Fiverr, Top Rated has high requirements for success score, rating, replies, orders and earnings, plus a manual review. Always check the current rules on the platform.

Is it safe to use AI for client work?

It can be, if you stay open with clients, follow the platform's rules, refine and check everything, and protect confidential data. Never claim AI-made work as fully hand-made when a client asked for non-AI work.

Can I learn online if I live outside Dhaka?

Yes. Freelancing Career offers online courses, so you can learn from any city, as long as you have a reliable internet connection and a regular study routine.

Ready to Start?

Freelancing can turn a skill into a real career, but only if you choose well, practise honestly and learn from people who can show their work. If you would like to learn Digital Marketing or Website Design with me, visit Freelancing Career, or send me a short message and tell me which skill you are thinking about.
